Chapter 24: He Wouldn't Be Your Fiancé, Would He?

Seraphina West rushed to greet the handsome mixed-race man, her smile as bright as a sunflower. The treatment she gave this "old classmate" was vastly different from the one she gave Lily Lane. "Who are you?" the man asked.

Lily Lane snickered. "She's throwing herself at someone who doesn't even remember her," she whispered to Sonya.

Sonya tugged at Lily Lane."Let's go inside."

"No way. I need to watch this."

Seraphina West's forced smile was faltering. Luna Stone quickly stepped in.

"This is Seraphina West, our high school's prom queen."

The man tried to recall. "But wasn't my uncle the prom king *and* queen?" Luna Stone chuckled nervously."Yeah, your uncle was both prom king and queen back then." To spare Seraphina West's embarrassment, she joked, "The school walls had to be rebuilt every few months because students from other schools would scale them to catch a glimpse of Jason Reynolds's uncle. Seraphina West laughed to cover her embarrassment."Of course! To prevent other schools from stealing our prom king, we even formed a 'Flower Protection Society' among the students." Sonya agreed; it was incredibly awkward.

Seraphina West then pulled Julian Jennings toward Jason Reynolds. "You two were classmates since middle school, and even in the same class in high school."
