Revenge is Best Served… After Reborn

Chapter 1729

Sandy carried on, "Sophie, don't doubt it for a second. Gordon loves you, he really does. The thing is, he just doesn't show it, which makes you wonder if he even cares about you as his sister. But it's quite the opposite-he cares so much that he's got these sky-high expectations for you, while still looking out for you in the gentlest way possible."

Hearing Sandy's words, Sophie felt a wave of emotion wash over her.

It was true.

Right from the start, she'd seen Gordon throw a woman who got too close to him out of a second-story window, just as a warning to her, making sure she kept her distance. Gordon was always a master strategist, always a step ahead.

He knew exactly what she was like, knew she craved a simple life, so he kept her far away from any danger. He played the role of a dangerous man, pushing her away with one bold move.

Every bit of help he offered was wrapped up as a transaction. He taught her how to use her own worth to get what she deserved. In doing so, he maintained the only kind of relationship they could have-they weren't even friends, really, just partners in a sort of business deal. He wouldn't open up to her, wouldn't cross any lines.

That's why being alone with Gordon always felt so awkward. How could anyone feel comfortable in a relationship that was all about mutual benefit?

Maybe from the moment Harold set foot in Eastwood College, Gordon had already started playing his game with her. But in this game, their roles were crystal clear.

"Sophie, I know my words might not make much of a difference right now, but I still want to say this... if you're really hurting, don't force yourself to let go. Try to accept it and then go have some fun. Let happy memories outshine the painful ones."

Sandy squeezed Sophie's hand, "You've got Colby who loves you, and you have me, your good friend. We're here for you whenever you need us. Life's short and unpredictable. Living it fully is the best way not to let yourself down, and to honor those who wish you happiness." "I get it... thank you."

Sophie returned Sandy's squeeze with a grateful smile.

Just then, Jenna's voice burst into their little heart-to-heart.

"What are you two up to over here?"

Jenna wobbled over, clearly tipsy, and teased, "Sandy, hands off!0 Sophie's my bestie, you can't steal her away! I can't believe you're having secret chats without me. Am I an outsider now?" noveldrama

With that, Jenna plopped onto Sophie's lap.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! What are you doing here, my dear?"

Adler hustled over, gently lifting Jenna up and then turned to Sophie and Sandy with an apologetic grin, "Sorry about that. Jenna's like this when she's had a bit too much. She's not the best drinker...

Before he finished, Jenna wobbled back to her feet, pointing at the air and slurring, "Who says I can't handle my drinks? Who!"

"No one said that, Jenna! No one!"

Adler carefully steadied her, trying to keep her calm, worried she might start acting up again.

"Let's head back too."

Sophie and Sandy walked hand in hand back to their seats. As soon as they opened the door, they saw that besides Colby and Adler, the rest of the guys in the room, including Booker, were already red-eyed from all the drinks.
