Chapter 146
Sena locked eyes with Charles' icy glare, feeling her face drain of color. She instantly regretted letting Dahlia's taunts get to her, causing her to blurt out the truth about what went down five years ago. "Spill it! What exactly happened five years ago?" Charles barked, his voice cutting through the air with authority.
Sena trembled uncontrollably, tears spilling over. She knew revealing the truth would only inflame Charles' anger, but she couldn't keep it bottled up any longer.
Through her sobs, Sena explained, "Capital College had just one recommendation slot from the jewelry competition five years ago. Dahlia mentioned that a professor called Samuel had his eye on Evelyn and was planning to recommend her. "If Evelyn got the nod, Dahlia would miss her shot. I wanted Dahlia to go to clinch first so that your dad would notice her and give his approval, and she could eventually join the Jenkins family. So..."
Reflecting on that moment from five years ago, Sena felt deep regret, not for hurting Evelyn, but for doing it all for someone like Dahlia a two-faced snake. It just wasn't worth it.
Sena's heart seethed with anger. She shot a resentful glare at Dahlia, who was still acting all innocent, which only stoked her fury.
Dahlia was a master at playing the part.
"Sena!" Charles' voice cut in, as chilly as ice, laced with a warning.
Evelyn stood a few steps away, watching the drama unfold, her lips curving into a smile tinged with cold disdain. Was he still defending Dahlia at every turn?
Under Charles' intense gaze, Sena realized there was no hiding the truth anymore. She continued, "I wanted to tarnish Evelyn's reputation. I knew she couldn't handle her drinks at that party, so I swapped her drink for something much stronger." "She was out after just one glass, completely out of it. I helped her into a room I had set up."
"It was my first time pulling something like this, and I was a wreck. I never thought I'd send her to the wrong room. Who could've guessed you'd end up there too, drugged by someone else?"
She had everything ready for someone to snap photos of Evelyn.
At the time, Sena was clueless and didn't know that Evelyn was with the wrong person. The pictures were taken and leaked as instructed. She'd even paid to make sure it went viral, and the scandal spread like wildfire online.
Charles' PR team caught wind in time and pulled it down, but the damage was done. Rosa still heard about it.
...
Charles listened, and his face grew darker, eyes narrowed, a storm brewing in his expression. So, that night five years ago hadn't been Evelyn's doing at all?
He had been wrong about her all these years.
Charles reflected on the past five
years and how he had treated Evelyn coldly because of this
misunderstanding. Even little Charlie conceived that night, had borne the brunt of his resentment. noveldrama
Evelyn had tried over and over to tell him she hadn't drugged him, that it was all a mix-up. But he hadn't listened, brushing it off as excuses and treating her and their daughter frostily. They had suffered somuch because of this mistake.
Charles turned to Evelyn, expecting to see tear-filled eyes accusing him, demanding an apology. After all, she and Charlie had endured so much because of his mistake.
However, even as the truth came to light, proving he had been wrong, Evelyn's expression was surprisingly calm. She didn't even glance his way. Her eyes were locked on Sena.
