Chapter 161
Upon hearing that Evelyn was in trouble and at the hospital, Charles jumped into his car and floored it, racing to get there.
Evelyn alone in the middle of nowhere, none of this would have happened.
The moment Charles arrived, he spotted Brooks trying to make an unwelcome move on Evelyn. From the instant Brooks had found Evelyn and saw her in such a sorry state, a fiery rage had flared up inside him, and he pointed straight at Charles. If Charles hadn't left Brooks managed to stand up, using Charles' force to his advantage. Seeing Brooks back off, Charles loosened his grip. But then, out of nowhere, Brooks swung a fierce punch at Charles. The punch was lightning-fast, catching Charles completely off guard. Brooks, who was usually the epitome of a gentleman and never raised a hand in anger, had packed a mighty punch. Charles stumbled back a step, regaining his footing while tasting blood in his mouth. A dangerous glint flickered in his eyes, making his expression icier than ever. He lifted his hand, ready to hit back.
Before he could make a move, Evelyn, who knew Charles all too well, sprang up from the bed, staggered down, and positioned herself between him and Brooks. Charles' eyes widened in shock, and he instantly pulled back his punch, stopping just shy of hitting Evelyn. He was mere inches away from her.
"Evelyn!" he shouted.noveldrama
"Evelyn!" Brooks echoed, equally shocked, quickly pulling her into his arms and looking at her with deep concern. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," Evelyn replied, shaking her head. Turning within Brooks' embrace, she shot a cold glare at Charles and spat out, "Leave!"
Only then did Charles notice the injuries on Evelyn's face and the bruises on her wrist when she had moved. Shock rippled through his eyes as he stepped closer, reaching for her hand. "What happened?"
"Don't touch me!" Evelyn snapped, swatting away Charles' hand, her eyes filled with disdain. "Charles, I'm telling you again. Get out. I don't want to see you."
If he hadn't dragged her off to such an isolated place and abandoned her there, none of this would have happened. Her last memory of Charlie wouldn't have been stolen.
"Mr. Jenkins, my girlfriend doesn't
want to see you. Please, have some
decency and leave right now,"
Brooks said, helping Evelyn backet
onto the bed and signaling for her to lie down while he handled the situation. He turned, his gaze icy as it settled on Charles.
Charles ignored Brooks, his focus solely on Evelyn's battered face. Her wounds had been treated, but the
severity of those two slaps was still clear. Not to mention the fresh
bruises on her wrist.
A flash of murderous intent crossed Charles' eyes. He was dead set on finding out who'd had the audacity to hurt Evelyn.
On his way to the hospital, Charles had already tasked Aiden with digging into the matter. By the time he left the hospital room, Aiden had the culprit waiting in the parking lot.
The man was on his knees, begging
for mercy. "was just after some cash. I swear I didn't mean to hurt her, but she defended that old trinket like it was pure gold. I figured it was worth something, so I tried to grab it, too."
"She fought back hard, so I had no choice but to hurt her... Ah!" he screamed as Charles snapped the man's arm.
The necklace fell into Charles' hand.
