Chapter 398
After Ted finished speaking, he charged at Matthew. As he closed in, he raised the dagger and aimed for Matthew's face.
Suddenly, there was a muffled thud as Matthew kicked Ted in the stomach. Ted flew backward at an even faster speed than he had charged, landing heavily more than six feet away. The room fell into sudden silence. Ted clutched his stomach, gritting his teeth, his face twisted in agony.
Though he didn't make a sound, the pain seemed almost unbearable, as if it were piercing through to his very core.
Renae was frozen with fear, and her face paled. She didn't know what to do next.
Trevor looked at Matthew with a hint of admiration. Even though he couldn't intervene, he believed that Ted deserved to be punished. What Matthew had done was extremely satisfying. After a while, Ted let out a painful groan. "Ah, it hurts so much!"
He gritted his teeth and pointed angrily at Matthew. He snapped, "You're in deep trouble. Just wait. I can make one phone call, and you're doomed. I'm calling right now." With that, he pulled out his phone and began dialing.
Matthew slowly moved forward, his voice cold as he said, "So, you were trying to stab me earlier, right? Well, it's only fair to return the favor. Now it's my turn to stab you!"
Ted was halfway through his call when he got scared, turned around, and ran. As he fled, he shouted, "You... you just wait! This isn't over!" Quickly, he disappeared through the door. Matthew tossed the dagger aside and saw that Renae was visibly pale, her eyes filled with fear.
He smiled and said, "I was just scaring that guy. Don't worry, I didn't actually mean to stab him."
Renae's anxiety eased slightly, but she still looked worried. "What's wrong with you?" she asked. "Tell me quickly. After I treat you, you need to leave right away."
She added, "If you stay too long, Ted might come back with more people, and it could get really dangerous."
Matthew raised an eyebrow and asked, "Who exactly is this Ted? Is he really that remarkable?"
Renae looked extremely concerned as she replied, "He has relatives in the district with connections. Just tell me what's wrong so I can treat you, and you can leave. If you don't leave soon, it'll be too late.
Matthew shook his head and said, "I'm perfectly fine. I came here because I need to talk to you."
Renae immediately became cautious and said, "What do you need to talk to me about? I don't even know you!"noveldrama
Matthew got straight to the point and clarified, "There are some things I was supposed to discuss with Dr. Payne. Since he's no longer here, I have to discuss this with you instead. "According to my mentor's instructions, I'm here to retrieve the Afflictan Sect token, the Golden Wisdom Pen, and the medical literature, Scholarly Tradition."
Renae took a few steps back, her face reflecting fear. She said, "I... I've already told you that we don't have the Scholarly Tradition. I've never even heard of it. We don't have any medical literature at all. Please don't make things difficult for me."
Seeing her reaction, Matthew stepped back a little and said, "First, don't be afraid. I'm not here to make things difficult for you. I'm here on my mentor's orders.
"You should be aware of the
agreement your family, the Paynes, made. If the Afflictan Sect cannot be carried forward and improved, then the Golden Wisdom Pen and the Scholarly Tradition must be returned.
"However, we won't take the medical skills. You can continue as a branch of the Afflictan Sect."
Renae's expression shifted from fear to surprise. "You... you were sent by Juprus?" she asked.
"Juprus?" Matthew thought. It was his first time hearing this term. However, he could roughly guess what it meant when he related it to the Juprus Ring.
What do you think?
