Your Love Is But a Dream (Clara and Wren)

Chapter 123

Angie didn't hear the mocking laughter at first. She looked up and saw Ivy standing there with a sour expression. Just as she was about to call out to Ivy, she heard the laughter of ridicule coming from the next booth. Angie froze for a moment before she walked over to Ivy to listen carefully.noveldrama

Meanwhile, Penny, Wendy Simpson, and the other woman didn't notice anything unusual. They were still chatting excitedly, and Ivy and Angie heard everything they said.

Angie had a quick temper and wasn't as patient as Ivy had thought. When she heard them shamelessly continue to humiliate Ivy, she stormed over to the other booth.

"Penny Cooper! Did you forget to brush your teeth before leaving the house today? Your breath stinks! Is this the kind of upbringing you people in high society have? How shameless can you be to talk behind someone's back like that!" Angie hollered. Penny and her companions were startled by the sudden interruption, and their faces showed their displeasure. But when they saw Ivy standing behind Angie, their expressions turned slightly awkward.

The awkwardness lasted only for a split second. Penny quickly crossed her arms and leaned back into her chair. She sneered. "Are you Ivy's lapdog, Angie? You're so protective of her."

"What did you just say? I dare you to say it again!" Angie's face turned red as she glared at Penny in fury.

Ivy understood that Angie was only trying to stand up for her. Although she wasn't thrilled with Angie's impulsive actions, she knew that if she stayed silent and ignorant now, it would only create a rift between them.

Ivy had already become the laughingstock of their community. If she lost a friend like Angie, it would only make things worse.

With that in mind, she stepped forward and placed a comforting hand on Angie's shoulder. Her gaze was fearless as she cast a reproachful look at Penny and her friends. "Ms. Cooper, while we may have had our differences, my private matters with Wren are not for your interpretation.

"Plus, Angie is my friend. She merely spoke up for me because she couldn't stand your gossiping behavior. How can you insult her so viciously?"

Ivy continued, "Now, I would like you and your friends to apologize to me and Angie. If not, I'll make sure to let Wren know about this when he returns."

In the past, Penny would definitely have been concerned by such a statement, as she would have been afraid that Ivy would complain to Wren. After all, Wren did treat Ivy quite well and had acknowledged her status. However, the situation was different now. Ivy had been abandoned by Wren, while Penny was still the heiress to the Cooper family. There was no way Penny would bow her head to a woman like Ivy.

Cindy Sullivan-who sat beside Penny-retorted before Penny could, "So what if we gossiped about you, Ivy? Didn't we speak the truth?

"Then, there's Angie, rushing over to insult Penny. She has absolutely no manners. Could it be that you instructed her to come over and speak up for you?"

"I'm the one who can't stand any of

you. It has nothing to do with Ivy," Angie snarled. She shot them a sharp glare. "You're targeting Ivy simply because Wren likes her and not any of you. You're just slandering her like this because you're jealous of her!"

"I'm jealous of her?" Penny looked at Ivy and Angie in ridicule, like she had just heard something hilarious.

"What a joke! Me, the heiress of the Cooper family, jealous of a woman with that sort of lowly upbringing?"
