Chapter 125
Ivy felt a twinge of impatience seeing Angie's stubborn attitude, and she knew that staying here would only lead to more humiliation from Penny and her friends.
If she didn't have Wren to back her up, she couldn't afford to offend any of these women, given their influential family backgrounds. It was better to leave quickly now to avoid making the situation even more awkward. Ivy shook her head and said nothing more. Her face was pale as she said, "I'm not feeling too well. Let's go to another restaurant for lunch."
Although Angie felt displeased deep down, she saw the troubled expression on Ivy's face. She could only swallow her words reluctantly.
"Fine. Let's go somewhere else. The air in this place is horrible, and staying here for a meal would just make me sick," she said. With that, Angie dragged Ivy out of the restaurant.
Angie was still fuming after they left the restaurant. She rambled, "Such snobs looking down on others! Don't listen to them, Ivy. I've seen with my own eyes how much Wren cares for you. He'll definitely marry you."
Ivy lowered her eyes despondently, staying silent for a moment before she looked up at Angie with red-rimmed eyes. "Thank you for standing up for me, Angie. I'm sorry for dragging you into this and making you go through that with me today." Angie felt heartbroken for Ivy and hugged her arm. "We're friends, so what are you apologizing for?"
As she spoke, there was some hesitation in her tone. "I never asked you, but where did Wren go? How could he not show up for such an important event like his own engagement?"
Ivy chewed on her lip, struggling internally before finally speaking, "It might... have something to do with Clara."
"Clara? His foster sister?" Angie was perplexed.
"Yeah." Ivy nodded. "Clara is in love with Wren."
"What? That's shameless of her! Wren is her brother, so how could she have such ridiculous and dirty thoughts?" Angie reacted strongly.
In order to emphasize how Wren's affection for her was one of a kind, Ivy had never spoken well of Clara to Angie. She had never told Angie about Clara's unrequited love Wren out of fear of upsetting him as well. But now, she couldn't care less about that anymore.
Wren dared to abandon her to look for Clara, so why should she still help that bitch cover up her shame?
"Angie, I'm only telling you this because I trust you. You mustn't tell anyone else about it to avoid damaging Clara's reputation," Ivy said.
"She's trying to steal your man, and you're still thinking on her behalf?" Angie felt indignant for her. "Ivy, I wish you'd stop being so kind sometimes."
"She's the Sister Wren raised, after all. Some mistakes can be forgiven," Ivy said. "I just never expected that after hearing about our engagement, she would run away from home just to force Wren to call it off. noveldrama
"Wren was worried about her and had no choice but to drop everything to look for her."
"She's so shameless!" Angie was furious. "You need to be careful, Ivy. She might be his sister in name, but they are not related by blood. What if she seduces him and steals your place?"
Ivy's face turned pale as she bit her
lip and looked down sadly. "If Clara can come back safely, I'm willing to step aside and leave the Zachman family. All that matters is for her to be safe and happy."
