Willy had been dealing with the aftermath the following days only to be shocked by the findings the deeper he dug.

He pounded his head as he read the information sent to his office, troubled. "It seems that things are more complicated than we imagine. Matthew Cruise is quite a trouble!"

Sitting across him, Lexx nodded as he stirred his cup of coffee.

"I'm afraid many people will get involved if we drag one out! Matthew's identity is a touchy one. He isn't just a businessman but is also involved in politics, including his indirect relationship with a commissioner. I think this is also one of the reasons his backer chose him; wide connection and greed. People like him are easy to manipulate and control. After all, if something does happen to him, many higher-ups would be more or less affected. So they'll imperceptibly cover him unless he crosses the line!"

After putting his coffee down, he took a glance at Willy before speaking gravely.

"Willy, we'll be riddled with troubles if we decide to lay our hands on him! We'll be targeted from all directions. The interest involved isn't too big of a deal; what's problematic are... favors!"

Willy tapped his finger, frowning subconsciously. "He's a formidable guy!"

They couldn't get anything on him at all! Worse, men like him were highly likely dangerous! That guy would be a ticking time bomb if he let him be. So, he couldn't turn a blind eye to this no matter how troubling it was!"

"You can say that again! Matthew and Nora are more likely sellers and buyers. The more stressed out someone is, the likelier they'd dabble with these things. And celebrities like Nora, who earns quick money, naturally became his first choice! Also, I suspect he's also using her connections to expand his trades. C-listers like her falter the easiest and are the easiest to manipulate! I believe he made sure Lauren would forever keep her mouth shut is unlikely because she walked in on them having an affair, but that he mistakenly thought she saw their trade or heard some inside story! Lexx couldn't help sighing as he analyzed.

"You're right. That's why we have to find a way to resolve this. Best if we can settle it without alarming the backer, dial it down! As for what happens after, someone will eventually take care of it for us!"

The most important thing was to resolve the crisis in front of them. As for the latter, one trigger and things would naturally fall in line. With how the government was cracking down on such crimes, they'd eventually get caught!

As their eyes met, they said in unison, "And put them behind bars!"

Willy closed his hand into a fist; the two were on the same page.

"True that. He has to go in lawfully, and he cannot leave in the short run. That way, he won't be able to harm Lauren again nor alert the others! But what felony can we use that will keep us clean and not cause them to suspect? Even better if someone will keep an eye on him for us. He absolutely cannot leave!"

"I do have one in mind!"

With that, Lexx wrote a few words on the table with his finger. 'Abroad, celebrity, badger game.'

His words reminded him of the celebrity scandal that caused a sensation some time ago. It was indeed a good inspiration. Being in a foreign land had always been the best way to tie someone down genuinely!

"Yeah, that's a good idea! Time to play a serious game of chess. Find a lawyer who's familiar with foreign law. Use loopholes to have him hide abroad for a couple of years; best if he can live the rest of his life in foreign lands! Let's hope our government can eradicate this cancer!"

By then, they'd just have to give it a push in the shadows!

That way, they'd be able to avoid danger and get rid of the crisis in front of them. Following that, the two discussed the details and only then was Willy more at ease.

"That reminds me; what's the situation with Cloud? And the kidnappers; have they been caught?" "They've done a psychiatric evaluation with her; she's already been sent to a psychiatric institution! As for the kidnappers, they were captured in a mountain in Laramie City! They're a couple of outlaws with murder cases on them; that was why they dared to take up kidnapping and murder jobs so brazenly! From what I've gathered, Cloud found them on a public chat forum, and they hit it off by chance. From their means and testimony, Cloud had probably hired a few more people before them. But they were probably a couple of gutless newbies. Plus, she deliberately created the false impression of child trafficking, our investigation was led astray, all that to pave the way for this one attack. As for whether this was part of her plan or one formed from many failed plans, we will never know!"

Lexx sight, his palm drenched in a cold sweat.

"He who is unjust is doomed to destruction; that sure was a close call! If she hadn't changed her hires at the last minute, her spotter and kidnappers weren't from the same bunch, and if Fleur hadn't snatched Yvette's bag so coincidentally, I fear to even imagine what things would look like now!"

Though it still ended with a tragedy, she probably had it coming. Up to this point, apart from feeling bad for the young, innocent life, what was more discernible was what goes around comes around!

This was probably the heavens' way of punishing the bad! That was why Cloud went mad. Anyone would if they lost two daughters in a short time! "This is probably also my retribution and lesson! Those who tame a lion might one day end up in its belly; looks like not all charities are doable! If it weren't for her, maybe Lauren wouldn't have left me while she was still carrying Yvette!" Willy couldn't help sighing.

If Cloud could've embraced all her misfortunes, it wouldn't be hard for her to find a decent guy and live a good life if she lowered her standards with her nature and character Too bad not only had she married into an unpleasant family but he own family was also unreasonable. Perhaps only her children had ever given her a sliver of happiness when she was debt and burden-ridden. However, these two young ones not only had the blood she hated coursing through their veins but also one was weak and the other bed-ridden. It was probably something that had

tormented her for a long time too.

"Lauren didn't have things any better than she did; it's still down to the individual! Forget it; let's not talk about her anymore! Deal with Cruise first. We have to be very careful; we can't let them have any evidence of our involvement. Even if we're not afraid, we have to think of our family!"

At home, after a long exercise and working up a sweat, Lauren felt much more comfortable, refreshed coming out of the shower.

After putting on her clothes, she did some quick tidying and noticed the cardboard box and a big kraft paper-wrapped package in the corner when she looked up.

The gifts he sent her?

They seemed to have been from when he was about to propose to her, and she was wrapping up her revenge. So she never even unwrapped, much less looked at them. So everything had been put into a box and brought over when they moved?

Seeing there was still time, she got a

knife cutter and walked over to it. She unwrapped a few gifts, watches, accessories, perfumes, all valuable items women commonly used. She probably received them later but never even took a gander before chucking all of them into this box. But looking at them now, the unique 'S' symbol on every one of them became irreplaceable gestures.

Compared to just receiving these gifts, the extra gesture touched her even more.

When she got to the last one, she figured she was either unwrapping a photo or a piece of art. The moment she flipped it over, she couldn't help throwing her head back, bursting into laughter.

"Haha, haha..."

Willy heard a burst of melodious, joyous laughter as he went up the stairs. Right as he entered, he saw his wife sitting on the floor, laughing hysterically as she held a piece of art in her arms, surrounded by a circle of gifts.

Looking around as he walked up to her, his gaze brightened up. They were all from him!

Who'd thought she could already be so happy to receive some gifts!

Sitting down on the carpet next to her, he unboxed a watch and wrapped it around her wrist. "I got it specially for you. It's very you, isn't it? Everything

I got you, I had the designer choose the best-seller and even altered the symbol!"

He flicked the dangling diamond S buckle lightly, feeling proud of his decision. Everything he got her had a unique meaning, and he had a feeling

she'd like them!

And the sketch; though it wasn't professional, he drew it himself. Easy to understand and even lavishly framed! As his nickname in her contact came to his mind, he felt warm on the inside.

Lauren poked him as she continued to laugh. "Are you a dummy? Do you even know what 'big pig trotter' means? What made you think it's a good

idea to give a woman this?"

Was he complaining she dumped him a little too late?

Seeing that he hadn't only drawn one but a pair, even with smiley faces at that, she laughed so hard that she nearly feared up. Men sure could get quite adorable when stupidity hit them!
