Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 568

Just when Selena thought he might blow up, he simply held her gaze with those deep, dark eyes for a moment, then turned and walked out. She exhaled a relieved sigh.

Snuggled in bed, cradling her baby who smelled of milk, the weight and confusion that had been pressing on her heart slowly began to lift. It had been a whirlwind of a day; her mind was cluttered, and her nerves were taut. But now, maybe because her son was finally back with her or perhaps because Moon Bay felt so familiar, she started to unwind without even realizing it, her eyelids growing heavier by the second.

The night was calm and still. When Everett quietly opened the nursery door again, Selena was already asleep next to their son, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting a peaceful light on her face. He stood there watching her, suddenly feeling like he was in some sort of dream.

Unable to resist, he moved forward, gently lifting his son from her arms and tucking him in with a little blanket. Then, he carefully scooped up Selena, his slender, fragrant wife, and carried her out of the room. Even with his gentle touch, Selena stirred awake.

At first, she was confused, but then she realized she wasn't in the nursery anymore; she was back in the master bedroom. As he laid her on the soft, spacious bed, she woke up, clearly annoyed. But instead of looking embarrassed for getting caught, he cheekily said, "Mrs. Bennett, now that you've tended to our son's needs, it's time to look after your husband's too. You know I'm not one for separate beds."

Everett's warm hand slipped under

her nightgown, claiming the softness he had longed for. He wasn't exactly gentle, and Selena's breath quickened, her chest rising and falling. She couldn't fend him off frustration bubbling over as she snapped, "Everett, is that seriously all you think about?"

Keeping up his antics, he admitted with a grin, "When I'm with you, yeah, that's pretty much it!" The attraction between them was natural, nothing to be shy about. She always had a way of stirring up every emotion and desire in him, his longing for her as strong as ever.

His words made Selena want to smack that smirk right off his face. After all this time, he still couldn't manage a sweet word! Furious, she closed her eyes, trying to calm herself, and said, "Everett, we need to talk."noveldrama

Her return wasn't about old feelings

for him; it was all for their child. She had chosen to have this child, and she was going to be responsible, never abandoning him. She had decided that she and Everett could live together as co-parents, not as foolish lovers clinging to old notions of romance. Everett needed a Mrs. Bennett, and while she couldn't be that person before, she could now.

Sensing her thoughts, Everett suddenly cupped her chin, making her look at him. His deep, dark eyes seemed to see right through her. "Talk about what? About how you plan to leave me once you've crossed the bridge?" His bluntness caught her off guard, leaving her momentarily speechless. Her silence spoke volumes. Everett felt a pang of disappointment; he had managed to bring her back, but her heart was still somewhere else.
