The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 150

"I've got nothing to say to you." Evelyn's face was like ice, her voice even colder. She pushed open the car door, ready to get out. But before she could step down, Charles, who had just slid in from the other side, grabbed her wrist. With a firm tug, he pulled her back into "Charles!" Evelyn's voice was filled with anger as the lock clicked shut.

the car, slamming the door shut behind her.

"Charles, are you deaf? I said I have nothing to say to you!" Her eyes flashed with anger as she shook off his grip.

"Unlock the door. I want out." Her tone was icy.

Charles glanced in the rearview mirror and noticed a familiar figure heading toward them-it was Brooks. His handsome features twisted in annoyance. This man seemed to pop up everywhere. As soon as Brooks' gaze met the car, Charles hit the ignition. With a swift push on the accelerator, they sped off.

Evelyn was caught off guard and lurched forward. This time, Charles' hand shielded her before she could hit anything. Still shaken, Evelyn leaned back, trying to calm her racing heart. She barely managed to spit out, "Charles, what the hell is this? Stop the car!" "Buckle up," he replied, steering with one hand as he checked the rearview mirror. He noticed Brooks heading to his parked Maybach. Ignoring Evelyn's protests, Charles kept his foot on the gas.

With his reckless driving, Evelyn had no choice but to fasten her seatbelt. The speed made her complexion pale. "Where are we going, Charles?"

He stayed silent, foot planted firmly on the gas pedal. They zoomed through the streets until the surroundings became quieter. Finally, Charles hit the brakes in a secluded spot.

Here, they could finally talk.

Evelyn's anger boiled over. She leaned over to unlock the door, but before she could, Charles pressed her shoulders back into the seat, leaning in closer.

"Do you really have nothing to say to me?" Charles searched her eyes, trying to read her thoughts.

He knew how much Evelyn had loved him. She'd endured his misunderstanding about that night for five long years. Every time she tried bring it up, her face was filled with hurt, desperate to prove her innocence. Now that the truth was out, why did she have nothing left to say?

"Charles, you think there's anything left between us worth talking about?" Evelyn shot back, her voice laced with sarcasm. To her, any feelings she had for him were long gone. The truth about five years ago held no weight for her now.

Charles watched her act like a wounded hedgehog, all defenses up, and his expression softened. He didn't get angry like he used to. He knew he'd wronged her and their daughter, Charlie, because of his mistaken beliefs. Her anger was justified.

"Eve," he began gently, "these past five years, I've hurt you and Charlie. I want to make it up to you both."noveldrama
