Chapter 1627
The next morning, Skylar woke up quietly, careful not to disturb Joe. She had noticed when he returned the previous night, but she had been too tired.
After he finished his shower and joined her in bed, she instinctively nestled into his arms, found a comfortable position, and drifted off to sleep again.
After preparing breakfast, Skylar left a note for Joe before leaving for work. Just as she stepped out the door and approached her car, her phone buzzed with a text message.
"Do you think rewriting fate will lead you to a happy ending? Aren't you afraid of divine retribution?"
It was an unsigned message from an unfamiliar number. Those two simple lines made her face go pale.
Taking a deep breath, she forwarded the number to Paul. "Look into the owner of this number for me," she instructed.
With that done, Skylar got into her car and drove to work. About ten minutes later, Paul called her back.
"I had someone investigate it. The number is a virtual one-impossible to trace."
When Skylar heard that the number was a virtual one, she wasn't surprised. However, her expression grew more serious. "Got it. Thanks." Stopping at a red light, she stared at her phone, lost in thought. "Rewriting fate?"
She mulled over the words and thought, "Who could this be?"
...
During her lunch break, Skylar received a call from the police. Ruth had caused a scene at the detention center, threatening to take her own life and demanding to see Skylar.
The disturbance had grown too much for the authorities to manage. While the court had yet to deliver its verdict, Ruth's actions were causing significant disruptions.
The police couldn't realistically monitor her 24/7, and her antics were affecting the other detainees.
In light of this, the authorities reached out to Skylar to see if she could meet with Ruth and perhaps calm her down.
Skylar hadn't expected Ruth to
request her specifically. They had no
personal bond. If Ruth intended to play the sympathy card or beg for forgiveness, her target should have been Mona, not Skylar.
Still, curiosity gnawed at her, and she agreed to meet Ruth during her lunch break.
Upon arriving at the detention center, Skylar finally saw Ruth for the first time in days.
The few days in confinement had taken a visible toll on Ruth. She looked thinner, though she still had a youthful vitality, As Skylar took her in, Ruth returned the scrutiny.noveldrama
The contrast between them was striking.
The first thing Ruth said was a biting, sarcastic remark. "I'm the real sister here, but they treat you like a queen. If it weren't for your brother's help, do you think you'd be living so well?"
Skylar's response was curt. "You went through all this trouble with the police just to say that? If that's all, save your breath. I don't need to hear it."
She turned to leave without hesitation.
Panic flickered across Ruth's face as she blurted, "Wait! Don't go! Please listen to me. I—I need your help."
Skylar paused, raising an eyebrow. "You? Need my help?"
She couldn't help but wonder what gave Ruth the audacity to ask for it.

Ruth pressed on shamelessly. "I know my brothers and Mona won't see me or listen to me, but they'll listen to you. Please, talk to them. Ask them hot to press charges. Please help me get a letter of recommendation so I can get out of here as soon as possible. I'm still young and have a bright future
ahead of me. I can't let this ruin me. I need my record clean."
What do you think?
